      i’m always suspicious of anything that works for online marketing that wouldn’t work in brick-and-mortar. some things are different (attention spans, cost of scaling communication), but customers tend to have the same underlying wants and needs and drives they always did. 🙂

  2. wow! this one article taught me more about writing better copy than anything i’ve read in last few days.i’ll make sure i apply the 5 minutes feature-benefit check to my landing pages from now.

    feeling curious… what is the difference if we highlight the benefits in a negative (fearful) way? for example-

    research shows about 50% of deaths in road accidents occur due to head injuries. protect your head with our rigorously crash tested helmets and enjoy worry free rides.

    instead of –

    our rigorously crash tested helmets protects your head better. it makes your rides safer so you can enjoy the long rides without any worry.

  3. writing a great, but generic piece of copy is one thing, writing effective content for marketing purposes, quite another. your checklist delineates the two quite clearly and the tips offered are quite valuable too. thanks for this great post, sonia! 🙂
